Drudge has linked to a story at www.independent.co.uk that says that two days before the attacks on the consulate in Libya, the Obama administration had received credible information that some of America’s embassies or consulates around the world could be targeted in the near future. The story quotes inside diplomatic sources who claim that the Obama administration knew of the danger but did nothing to protect the American diplomats in any of those countries. If this is true it would mean that the administration’s incompetence has led to the death of four Americans.
From The Independent:
Sensitive documents have gone missing from the consulate in Benghazi and the supposedly secret location of the “safe house” in the city, where the staff had retreated, came under sustained mortar attack . . .
Some of the missing papers from the consulate are said to list names of Libyans who are working with Americans, putting them potentially at risk from extremist groups, while some of the other documents are said to relate to oil contracts.
According to senior diplomatic sources, the US State Department had credible information 48 hours before mobs charged the consulate in Benghazi, and the embassy in Cairo, that American missions may be targeted, but no warnings were given for diplomats to go on high alert and “lockdown”, under which movement is severely restricted.
The State Department was notified 48 hours before the attack on the Libyan consulate, yet an ambassador and three other Americans still died at the hands of barbarians. On top of that, sensitive documents are missing from the consulate offices; documents that identified and could fatally compromise American allies in Libya.
If this story is correct, imagine the fallout had it happened under a Republican administration. How would the U.S. media treat the story? If this were the result of the actions or inactions of any but a Democratic administration, the media would never let up until the sitting president stood impeached.
If the details prove accurate, is this incompetence enough for a substantial number of Obama voters to change their minds and vote against Obama in November? What do you think?
With the U.S. economy still in bad shape, the Obama administration’s multiple failures in foreign policy, and Obama’s general lack of leadership, how can Obama possibly be reelected? If this new information is true, yet still not enough to sway the election toward a significant defeat for Obama, then nothing ever could. An Obama reelection after such repeated displays of incompetence would prove beyond any doubt that more than half of the American electorate lacks sound judgement. Considering that they voted for Obama in the first place, don’t we already know that.
